What is the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties?
What is the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties? At YPT we like to be the vanguards of useless socialist information, just in case the revolution does ever come.
And it was whilst reproaching the Pyongyang Declaration that we got turned onto the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties, with many parties to said meetings about being signatories to the declaration.
You can read about the Pyongyang Declaration here.
What is the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties?
Quite literally and as the name suggest it is an International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties – but of course we will give a bit more background.
It originated in 1998 when the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) invited various community and you guessed it workers parties to all meet up and discuss socialism, with the first jamboree taking place in Greece.
Since then the meeting has happened pretty much yearly, with the group also hosting their own website, as well as issuing a number of joint communiques, with the most latest being on the protection of the Communist Party of Venezuela. The main and controlling socialist party in Venezuela *the 4th biggest in the world) not being a party to the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties.

Who are the members of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties?
Being a meeting farther than a “club” there is no membership as such, but there are fraternal links to enough of a degree that it can be considered as close to socialist international as there is in the world right now.
As such there are a big mix of parties that are in control, those in coalitions, as well as some that are represented in parliaments or coalitions. For the most part though it consists of fringe parties, such as the New Communist Party of Britain.

Perhaps most interestingly, for us at least are that the Workers Party of Korea, the Communist Party of China, the Communist Part of Cuba, as well Laos and Vietnam have been present at many meetings. We will leave the “are they communist argument” to the article below.

Where are these meetings held?
Well the first one was in Greece and the last one was in Cuba. I know what you are thinking right, is this a communist Partay, rather than Party? Other venues have included Vietnam, Lisbon and Turkey.
The only two slightly less desirable ones we could find were in St Petersburg and Beirut.

When will the next International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties be held?
The next International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties will be held in Izmir between October 20th-22nd, under the time of;
“The political and ideological battles in the confrontation against the capitalists and imperialism. The tasks of communists in informing and mobilizing the working class, youth, women and intellectuals, in the fight against exploitation, oppression, imperialist lies and historical revisionism, for the social and democratic rights of workers and peoples, against militarism and war, for peace and socialism”.
Will YPT be running a tour for this? Well we have certainly not ruled it out, interest permitting of course…
