Kampot to Phu Quoc in 2025
With Vietnam and Cambodia both being firm favorites on the YPT calendar we are always looking not just for new destinations, but also new border crossings. With this in mind we present Kampot to Phu Quoc, the largest island within Vietnam.
And whilst we do not yet currently offer this as part of a group tours, we can certainly arrange as part of an independent tour to either Cambodia or Vietnam.
What is there to do in Kampot?
Kampot, Kep, Takeo and Sihanoukville (all on the same train line) offer lots for not just “regular” tourists, but also Pioneers looking for Urbex, and dark tourism
One of our favorite places in Kampot for this is Bokor Hill home to some of the fiercest fighting of the Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot.
For more regular activities there are also beaches and even a beer festival.

Getting from Kampot to Hai Tien
The first part of any travel from Kampot to Phu Quoc is going via the Vietnamese coastal town of Ha Tien. This is a fairly lackluster destination, but the view through the beaches of Kep is great and the journey time just one hour.
If you do not needs a visa such as UK passports the journeys quick and easy, while if you do need visa on arrival this can arranged. Remember you will need at least 6 months validity on your passport.
Of note is that Phu Quoc, which does have an airport is visa free for large number of countries.
Tickets for a tourney here costs just $12-14 and can be punched from nest to the wonderful Kampot Pepper and Seafood Restaurant.

Hai Tien to Phu Quoc
Completing the Kampot to Phu Quoc journey will mean getting a ferry from Hai Tien to the island. From immigration to the ferry terminal is thankfully included in the price of your ticket from where you buy your own ferry ticket.

Amazingly the cost of this was just 185,000 Vietnamese Dong, which translates to but a mere $7.50. And when you factor in that this is for a journey of just over 3 hours, this is a great price.
This is specifically for a seat on a vehicle ferry, which gets you a place on the not usually so busty seating area. From here you can buy some limited snacks, drinks, as well as go out onto deck.
And if you time things just right, then you can also witness a great sunset…
And as for what to do in Phu Quoc? That guide is to come.
