This year YPT attended the 2024 Cutud Lenten Rites Festival in San Fernando, Pampanga. This was our second since the end of the pandemic, as well as marking ten years since we first attended?

What is the Cutud Lenten Rites Festival?

A great big mix between a country fete and some serious BDSM, this sees devotees whip themselves a frenzy with blood splattering everywhere, as well as there being a “play”.

Said play is the reenactment of the Passion of the Christ, not to be confused with the movie. And yes this means people actually nailing themselves to a cross, despite what the naysayers might think. I know this I have been here almost 10 times!!!!

Was the 2024 Cupid Lenten Rites festival different to other years?

Quite rankly it was VERY different! This was because a ghostly clown and rain system started to hover above just as the play was about to start. This was something I have never seen and almost looked like divine intervention! Many people actually came up and said this has “gods work” written all over it.

I do hope this is true, but as I have never seen rain here, like ever I have to say I do have my spiritual doubts. With that being said though it did mean that we got the best photos we have ever managed to procure.

Will you be back for the 2025 San Fernando Cutud Lenten Rites Festival?

We most certainly will, right there front and centre with the paparazzi! We will also most likely be the only people actually being able to procure tickets, again….
