Best Chinese Food in Nauru - Anibare Bay Restaurant
The food of Nauru is largely dominated by Chinese cuisine of a questionable variety. There is though one stand out in the mediocrity and that is Anibare Bay Restaurant.
What the Anibare Bay?
Anibare Bay in Nauru is about as close as the island gets to a “beach destination,” but don’t expect white sand and cocktails. It is though a bay that manages to avoid the jagged rocks and thus give you a chance to swim in Nauru.
We personally love it here, but you also need to manage your expectations. This is not exactly Bali! Aside from the Anibare Bay Restaurant you will also find Bayview Restaurant probably the best restaurant and bar in all Nauru.

What the Anibare Bay Restaurant?
Located in little more than a shack this is very much island dining at its best. Theres seating for about 30 people inside and about 20 at most out the front. There’s no paper menus here with everything instead on boards inside and outside of the restaurant itself.
Said menu is fusion Nauruan-Chinese in nature, meaning dishes like Chop Suey, Chow Mein and the like. Staff here like in all Chinese restaurants in Nauru are Chinese meaning that should you speak at least a bit of the lingo you can get them to go a bit of track and do you some actual Chinese food. This is particularly the case with the female owner who is known as “beautiful” by the island folk and is never serving without a smile.
What also makes this one of the great restaurants not just of the Chinese variety is their western menu. This includes all manor of chicken dishes, steak, hamburgers, proper chips and even Nauru fare. By Nauru fare I mean coconut fish, which is raw tuna in a coconut milk type thing.

Can you drink at Anibare Bay Restaurant?
Currently you cannot, although this was not always the case here. One assumes that this is related to the overtly strict rules regarding liquor licenses within the country. This means that bars change even more frequently than Nauruan recognition of China!
This sadly means that while Anibare Bay Restaurant no longer gets the nod for our pub crawl it does at least cut the mustard for at least one lunch stop.
And the ambience at Anibare Bay Restaurant
It is quite literally opposite one of the best views that you can get of Nauru and indeed a great place to watch the sun as it starts to set – although not quite the view that you get at Jules On Deck.
This makes it a great place for lunch, dinner, or even a post swim food and drink grab after you have been playing around in the bay.
