The top 25 tourist attractions in Asia been announced, with some of the winners being somewhat controversial (at least to Young Pioneer Tours).

The travelers choice awards are presented yearly by leading travel review site TripAvisor and cover a whole range of awards for cities, countries, attractions, travel agents and whole bunch more.

Best Tourist Attractions in Asia, who what?

What really shocked YPT was that this list was headed by the “By The Bay” in Singapore, which was followed by Angkor Wat and the Great Wall, which at least we felt were deserving.

And while not wanting to sound like a dick Singapore really shocked us by heaving 6 of the top 25, while Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam each had a deserving 4 each.

YPT top tips fro the best tourist attractions in Asia!

One can obviously not argue with picks like the Great Wall, or Angkor Wat, but there were also a number of other YPT picks that made the list.

These included pretty much every Vietnamese entrant, particularly the Cu Cui Tunnels, but especially S-21. For the uninitiated S-21 was the brutal prison camp run by the Khmer Rouge that you can see on our Cambodian Dark Tourism Tour.

Sadly though the tunnels (10) and S-21 (22) marked the only so called “dark tourism” attractions on the list.

What would YPT add to the top 25 tourist attractions in Asia?

Seeing as we might only keep 5 of this list, we could pretty much do our very own list. We will though not put you through that right now……

We will though throw down a few that we feel are absolute no brainers! Top of said hypothetical list would be two from North Korea, namely Kumsusan Palace of the Sun and Panmunjom. We’d also probably add the DMZ in Hue, as well as Railway Street (perhaps).

The Potala Palace in Tibet should probably also get a look, as well as even maybe Fukushima.

Although we do realize that ours, as well as Pioneers probably do not share everyone’s tastes. So, maybe we will go all out and give our own best tourist attractions in Asia awards….
