The Currency of Eritrea

The currency Eritrea is the Nakfa. The Nakfa has been in use since 1997. You can see the Nakfa symbol abbreviated as Nkf. Other non-Latin script symbols are as follows: Ge’ez ( ናቕፋ ) and Arabic ( ناكفا ). The Eritrean Nakfa is divided into 100 cents.

Previously, the Ethiopian Birr was in use. As a result of the Eritrean War of Independence, the new currency was named after a small town called Nakfa. Here, the Eritreans won a decisive victory during the war.

The code for the Eritrean Nakfa is ERN. The currency of Eritrea is pegged to the US dollar. You can exchange the US Dollar for 15 Nakfa.
